Jeremy Palmer

I was checking out the archives of Webmaster Radio a little while back and came accross an audio Interview (MP3) with a guy named Jeremy Palmer.

Jeremy (who I had never heard of until then) is an affiliate marketer, who seems to know his stuff. in fact the audio interview is well and truly worth listening to for some tips on affiliate marketing. He is a CJ Performing Publisher which CJ bestows on their top affiliates (that means he’s pretty damn good at what he does) as well as a Google Adwords Qualified Individual and a Yahoo Ambassador (these latter two are a little less impressive as they are dependent on your spend, rather than your actual profit although they both have exams you have to pass).

One thing that caught me ear was Jeremy’s comment that, in his experience, driving search engine traffic to a landing page that he had built usually results in far higher conversions than driving traffic straight to the Merchant’s site via PPC.

This is absolutely true in my experience too. The reason is that if you drive somebody to your own landing page (or blog post), then you can customise their experience. If somebody is searching Google for red widgets, then you can produce a landing page about the benefits of red widgets. By the time they have finished reading all of the benefits, they will be in a far more likely state of mind to make a purchase.

This may seem somewhat counter-intuitive because you are adding an extra step to the process, but in almost every instance it seems to increase conversions.

Anyway, I decided to go out and buy Jeremy’s ebook - High Peformance Affiliate Marketing (affiliate link) to see what Jeremy had to say on the issue.

It’s not a bad read, but I would make a few qualifications to that statement. I would probably not recommend it to people who are already making an income from developing and promoting landing pages or affiliate websites. The information about this is solid, correct and actionable, but if you are already doing it successfully, there may not be much extra information you can get out of the book.

I found some great information on targetting prospects and developing unique pages that I had already begun experimenting with, but many affiliates will probably already know these tricks.

For people who are new to affiliate marketing or not making a significant income yet, however, the book would probably be a solid purchase. Jeremy goes into how to choose a product, how to develop a website and/or landing page around the product (an especially good section for non-techies) and the most important part - how to drive targeted prospects to your affiliate sites. Yes, this is all fairly basic but it is also very effective and Jeremy basically lays it on a platter.

If you follow the plan that is laid out in the book, then you will do well. If you rinse, wash and repeat the process many, many times like Jeremy obviously does, then you will do very well indeed.

Jeremy doesn’t really go into any detail about blogs, but I would say that for the websites Jeremy produces, blogs would be an obvious and easy way to manage the content (I am kind of biassed there).

Anyway, the book may be worth checking out and certainly Jeremy is someone to keep an eye on if you are looking for the occassional clue!
